WHAT TO KNOW
Before You Come In
The things people usually call and ask before they drive over.
1. Do You Need One?
Most vehicles need a smog check every two years at registration renewal, and again when a vehicle changes owners. Your DMV renewal notice will say.
2. What We Test
Gas and hybrid vehicles 2000 and newer. Diesel 1998 and newer under 14,000 lbs.
3. You Might Be Exempt
Gasoline vehicles eight model years old or newer don't need a physical inspection, you pay a smog abatement fee instead. Diesels older than 1998 and vehicles over 14,000 lbs are generally exempt. So are electric vehicles.
4. Failed Somewhere Else?
Bring it here. We can diagnose why it failed and repair it, then retest. A test-only station can tell you that you failed. It can't fix it.
5. Does Your Notice Say STAR?
Some vehicles are directed by the DMV to a STAR certified station. We're a licensed test-and-repair station, not STAR, so if your notice says STAR, give us a call and we'll point you to one.
6. What It Costs
$68.25, including the state certificate. That's the full price for the test itself, if something needs fixing after, we'll quote that separately.
